Profile of the Trade Show

China is one of the countries whose process of urbanization is currently the fastest. Under national strategy of macro regulation and control “Expand domestic demand, promote growth”, in future China will quicken major infrastructure construction such as comfortable housing project, railway, rural highway, airport etc., bringing along public facilities such as garden district, stadium, station, airport, harbour, plaza, community and scenic spots and so on keeping increase speed of above 16%. In 2009, infrastructure investment in national RMB4000billion economic stimulus plan increases to RMB1800billion from RMB1200billion, pushing China’s road and outdoor illumination industry to a new golden period.

Ningbo is one of China’s major lighting production and export base, national largest outdoor lighting production base, the most important industry city and foreign trade harbour in East of China. Its total export reaches USD$1.001billion. According to Ningbo customs statistics, during the period from January to February this year, the total export of lamps, lighting installation and similars from Ningbo is USD$35845 thousand, increasing 81.4% more than the same period of last year.

Kenfair International Limited is a renowned exhibition organiser in Hong Kong. Kenfair International’s flagship trade event is the annual October twin-fair, named the “Hong Kong International Toys & Gifts Show” and “Asian Gifts Premium & Household Products”, (also collectively known as the “Mega Show Part 1”). Since its debut in 1992, this sourcing extravaganza has been growing exponentially year by year. The event marked a significant milestone in 2002 when it received the prestigious “UFI-Approved Event” recognition form the Global Association of Exhibition Industry (UFI) of the exhibitions industry. The 2007 mega event showcasing an enormous range of toys, gifts, premiums and household products from over 3,500 exhibitors in 5,000 booths, once again lived up to its claim as one of the most effective sourcing platform in Asia for global buyers.

To further accommodate the huge sourcing demand during the late October, Kenfair launched the “Mega Show Part 2” in 2003. This show has gathered momentum as the best conclusion to the global big buyers’ year-end sourcing trip to the South China and Asia Pacific. The fair has also been enlisted as a “UFI-Approved Event” by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) in 2005.

The year 2006 saw the first-ever Hong Kong International Furniture Fair brought by the collaboration effort of Kenfair International and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (“HKTDC”). With the success of its debut in October, this new fair has grown to become an important platform for the furniture industry in the region.

Apart from local trade fairs, Kenfair also runs an overseas trade show-“Asia Expo”- in London of the U.K. since 2001. The 8-year-old “Asia Expo-London” is now a premier sourcing fair for top-quality yet competitively-priced Asian products in Europe. Perfectly timed to coincide with other large scale trade fairs in the nearby cities, “Asia Expo” quickly established itself as a must-visit trade show for volume buyers from the U.K., France, Italy, Spain and Germany, etc. With its astounding success and acclaim, the London show swiftly gained the status of being one of the “UFI-Approved Events” in October 2003.

In October 2007, Kenfair International capitalised on its professional exhibition expertise to take the lead on launching the first-ever trade fair of its kind and size, named Mega Macao, in the nearby city Macao, which is emerging as a key MICE (meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition) destination in the Far East. The second session was subsequently held in April 2008. The Macao show is purposely done in April and October to capture the prime periods for global buyers to come over Hong Kong and Southern China trade fairs to do their sourcing.

Buyers nowadays are not only sourcing from trade exhibitions, but also from various “off-fair” channels. To fully embrace the eminent market trends, Kenfair International launched a trade publication and revamped its company’s website (www.kenfair.com) with an online sourcing capability in October 2002.

Dubbed <>, Kenfair’s bi-annual magazine is published in February and October to coincide with the peak sourcing periods. Each issue features hundreds of pages of product advertisements from Hong Kong and Asian SMEs, as well as a wealth of cover stories, in-depth suppliers’ profiles, industry news, product features and trade show reports, etc. <> is now also released in electronic formats (on CD-ROM and online at www.kenfair.com), boosting the magazine’s worldwide exposure.

In October 2008, Kenfair International launched a brand new sourcing website, eMegAsia.com, which is positioned as a full-fledged online portal to provide a 24-hour non-stop product sourcing and marketing platform for Asian suppliers and international buyers.

Kenfair Travel Limited, a travel-arm of the company, was set up in May 2003 to provide one-stop travel-related services, including travel arrangement, air ticketing, hotel booking and tour packages, etc. Kenfair Travel has been effectively catering every travel need of the exhibitors and buyers attending all Kenfair trade shows.
